Coping with the Holidays
|| Back to articles
Christmas is fast approaching and can be a stressful time for many of us. We can often feel stressed, overwhelmed and under pressure as time whizzes by. Children finishing school, organising gifts, end-of-year festive celebrations, holiday arrangements, not to mention the logistics of organising Christmas day festivities, are only some of the things we have to manage. There may also be fear building in our minds regarding having to spend time with family members we only see once or twice a year and who make it a challenge to be in the same room! Or how about arranging access visits: who has the children and when? Flashing thoughts of last year's Christmas day family arguments bring fear and dread, 'Do you really have to go through this again?'
With all of this going on, this is the perfect time for a tailor-made Bach Remedy for yourself and other members or your family.
Rescue Remedy is a necessity for this time of year and it is always a good idea to have a bottle on hand. You never know when there may be a tantrum or an argument. It may be that you are just running late, feeling rushed or a little stressed. Two sprays or four drops of Rescue Remedy can just take the edge off and help you calm down and gain composure.
Elm is another helpful remedy for when you feel as though everything is getting on top of you and you seem unable to cope with everything you have to do. Maybe you have taken on too much work or too many responsibilities.
Elm will enable you to return to your normal, capable self, feeling self-assured and able to once again put things in perspective and cope, ensuring you look after your own needs as well.
Mimulus is for when you fear the vibe of family get-togethers. You hate the tension in the air and are scared at the thought of what is going to eventuate this year! Children scared of Santa would benefit from Mimulus.
Mimulus will enable you to cope with your fear and give you quiet courage and confidence.
White Chestnut is for when you cannot get thoughts out of your head. Your mind keeps going over and over the details. It could be: worry about the catering arrangements, whether you've purchased a gift for everyone, an argument that occurred last year, someone you have not invited this year. These thoughts can plague you any time of day, and can keep you awake at night when you can’t switch you mind off.
White Chestnut allows controlled thinking, clears your head and transforms worry to trusting whatever the outcome.
Tip: If the children are so excited they cannot get to sleep, give them two or three doses of Rescue Remedy and either White Chestnut, Mimulus or both after dinner to help calm and relax them before bed.
Wishing you a fun, happy and healthy festive season!
